TunisiaTourismTV – The old city of Tozeur, in the Tunisian South, is entirely built in small sandy colored bricks.
You can still visit the traditional kilns where these bricks are made.
Thanks to their ancestral know-how, Tozeur’s brickmakers have complete mastery over the process which remains totally handcrafted.
Visit them and you will see how they knead the clay mixed with sand, dry then reshape one by one thousands of bricks, arrange them in giant half-buried kilns heated by palm fires.
After several days of work, the yellow ochre bricks appear… They are the true soul of the city and remain the hallmark of Saharan architecture in this region of giant oases.
